Capacity
The #1 question asked is how many people does Sol y Sombra hold?
The answer depends on the style of wedding you would like to have:
- For seated meals (traditional dinner or tapas menu) we can cater for 125 guests including utilizing our mezzanine area. For seating in the main naive only we can accommodate 100 guests.
- Informal wedding parties our capacity is 180-200 guests
- Intimate Wedding Celebrations – Minimum guests 40, supplements apply for weddings under 40 guests

Traditional Seated Dinner Receptions
We offer traditional Irish banquet style dining to multi-course, family-style tapas tasting dinners. No matter what your vision is for your wedding reception meal is, our chefs are up to the challenge.
Informal Wedding Parties
Guests get to enjoy a ‘big party’ alternative wedding experience which focuses on fun rather than formality while covering all the bases from drinks reception to food, speeches, cake and of course music and dancing.
Ceremonies
Constructed in 1816, St James Church the site of Sol y Sombra, held wedding ceremonies long before it hosted guests for dinner, drinks, music and dancing. Sol y Somba is now a fully registered venue for civil marriages, civil partnerships, humanist and spiritual ceremonies. By offering a location for your ceremony and reception, Killorglin is the base for the day and night.
Drinks Reception
Whether you have tied the knot in Sol y Sombra or one of the many alternative ceremony locations in the area, its then time for your drinks reception. Killorglin boasts many great locations for you to enjoy a tipple as newlyweds. We recommend Kingstons Pub, Kingdom 1795 the historic Bianconi Inn while Falvey’s Bar is another great venue for smaller gatherings.
